Van Aken District Website

The Van Aken District is a vibrant neighborhood in Shaker Heights, Ohio, named after William J. Van Aken, the city's first mayor. The district was developed in the early 1900s by the Van Sweringen brothers, who envisioned Shaker Heights as a new, modern suburb of Cleveland.

Shaker Heights quickly became a popular destination for middle- and upper-class families, known for its excellent schools, beautiful homes, and strong sense of community. The Van Aken District began to decline in the 1950s and 1960s, but has undergone a revitalization in recent years.
