Overview
This project explores an unconventional collision between skincare product design and anime culture, specifically drawing from the world of Demon Slayer. The goal was to design a fictional skincare line where each product's identity, name, color, texture, and visual personality, is directly inspired by a character's elemental power and aesthetic. The result is a five-product collection that bridges the beauty and pop-culture markets, targeting a Gen Z and millennial audience that exists comfortably in both worlds.

Design & Layout
Each product was conceived as a character study as much as a packaging exercise. The line includes ZenC Glow (Vitamin C Serum), Water Breath Cleanser, Beast Pore Control Clay Mask, Bamboo Dew Moisturizer, and Butterfly Dream Night Repair Cream, each mapped to a distinct character, color world, and elemental motif.
ZenC Glow uses a warm amber frosted dropper bottle set against gold lightning bolts, the packaging color and visual language mirroring the Thunder Breathing aesthetic. Water Breath Cleanser lives in a deep teal pump bottle surrounded by flowing wave illustrations, its form and palette channeling the fluidity of Water Breathing. Beast Pore Control adopts an earthy brown clay jar with aggressive claw-mark strokes in the background, communicating raw strength and deep-cleansing power. Bamboo Dew Moisturizer takes a soft pink glass jar with a rose gold lid, its warmth and gentleness matching its character's spirit. Butterfly Dream Night Repair Cream is rendered in shimmering purple with etched butterfly wing motifs, the product photography pairing with chamomile flowers to evoke calm and renewal.
Each product was shot in two ways, a clean editorial version that communicates the product's ingredient story, and a character version where the anime chibi figure stands beside the product as a visual brand ambassador.

Methodology
The design process began with character mapping: matching each Demon Slayer character to a skincare concern and product type based on their personality traits and elemental style. This alignment gave every design decision a narrative anchor rather than arbitrary aesthetic choices.
Color was treated as the primary brand signal for each SKU. Rather than building a unified brand palette across the line, each product owns its own color world entirely, making the collection feel like a cast of characters rather than a generic product range. The background graphic elements (lightning bolts, water swirls, claw marks, flames, butterfly wings) were designed to echo the characters' breathing techniques, adding depth and world-building to each composition.
The dual photography approach, editorial clean shots and anime character pairings, was deliberate. It allows the brand to speak to a skincare-focused audience with the clean shots, while simultaneously activating the anime fanbase through the character compositions.

Outcome
The project delivers a fully realized five-product skincare line with distinct visual identities per SKU, a coherent overarching concept, and two photography directions that can serve different content contexts, from e-commerce listings to social media campaigns. The character integration demonstrates how licensed or cultural IP can be used to create emotional resonance and instant audience recognition in product design.

Conclusion
This project demonstrates the power of concept-led design, where a strong creative framework (character-to-product mapping) produces work that is both visually distinctive and strategically coherent. It also shows an understanding of how to speak to a culturally specific audience through visual language, making it a strong portfolio piece for anyone working at the intersection of branding, packaging design, and digital art direction.
