Visual Travel Grid – Rethinking How We Explore Destinations
Overview
This concept project reimagines how we browse and connect with travel experiences. Instead of starting with lists or filters, the idea is to begin with emotion — giving each destination a mood and a moment.
The interface presents a grid of 16 atmospheric titles like “A Walk Between Old Trees” and “Snow Trails and Cabin Fire.” Paired with custom visuals, it encourages discovery through instinct and inspiration rather than structure.
Process
The UI was designed in Figma, and all animations were crafted in Jitter to give the interface a smooth, organic feel. I wanted the experience to be more than just functional — it should invite curiosity.
As part of the visual exploration, I experimented with a progressive blur effect across the destination cards. The goal was to create a soft visual hierarchy without relying on typical UI cues like shadows or scaling. Cards closer to the user’s focus remained sharp, while those further away gently blurred, simulating depth and subtly guiding attention.
The first version of the concept was built as a horizontal carousel. It offered a clean, swipe-based navigation — but felt too linear for the kind of open-ended exploration I was aiming for. Moving to a grid layout allowed for more freedom and visual serendipity, encouraging users to wander rather than scroll. I’ve included a video of the original carousel prototype to show how the concept evolved.
