Saving Culture with a Modern Visual Identity

Roman Vasylovskyi

Website & Brand Redesign

Skeiron is dedicated to the digital preservation of cultural heritage — scanning historic buildings, monuments, and museum exhibits to ensure they’re safeguarded for future generations. As a Ukrainian company, their mission has become even more vital amidst the ongoing war, elevating their role in protecting national identity through technology.

The Challenge

As Skeiron’s impact and international presence grew, their existing brand and website no longer reflected the scale or ambition of their work. They needed a visual and digital refresh — one that could clearly communicate their purpose, resonate with a global audience, and support future expansion.

The Objective

Our goal was to completely reimagine Skeiron’s brand identity and online presence, positioning them as a forward-thinking leader in cultural heritage preservation.

Scope of Work

The project spanned a full suite of design deliverables:
Logo Redesign – A clean, modern mark aligned with their mission
Brand Style Guide – A unified system of typography, colors, and visual assets
Social Media Templates – On-brand, engaging visuals for digital storytelling
Merchandise Design – Apparel and promotional items to boost brand visibility
Website Design – A user-friendly, visually impactful website experience
Online Shop – A seamless e-commerce integration for digital products and services
Admin Panel UX – A streamlined backend interface for content and asset management

Design Process

Stakeholder Interviews

We began with a series of deep-dive interviews with key team members to align on vision, values, and priorities. These sessions uncovered:
Functional needs for the new website
Desired visual tone and personality
Inspiration from brands and experiences they admired
These conversations were foundational — helping shape a design system that’s not just visually compelling, but deeply connected to their story and mission.

Final Design

Website

The new website was built around Skeiron’s core mission: preserving cultural heritage through technology. Every design decision was made with this in mind — from the layout and visual hierarchy to the color palette and content strategy.
The dark and pastel tones were drawn directly from the architectural environments Skeiron documents — muted greens, stone grays, and golden hues often seen in historic buildings. This palette not only gave the site a grounded, heritage-inspired aesthetic but also reinforced their connection to the past.

A major design focus was showcasing Skeiron’s stunning 3D models — intricate digital reconstructions created from real-world scans. These visuals weren’t just decorative; they became a signature design element, elevating the brand and immersing visitors in the work.

Beyond the visuals, the website tells a deeper story: the people behind Skeiron. Their journey, values, and unwavering dedication to cultural preservation are woven throughout the experience, creating a brand that feels human, credible, and passionate.

Style Guide

The brand identity was built around a carefully curated palette — one that felt both timeless and vibrant. Shades of gold, gray, black, and green echoed the tones of churches, synagogues, castles, and the landscapes that surround them. To add contrast and energy, we introduced a vivid flame accent color, symbolizing Skeiron’s creative drive and mission-led momentum.
For typography, we selected Fixel by MacPaw — a modern geometric sans-serif with a humanist twist. It was a meaningful choice not only for its clean readability across digital and print but also because of its Ukrainian origin. The typeface includes glyphs and design nuances that reflect local heritage — a subtle but powerful nod to Skeiron’s roots.
The logo redesign embraced minimalism and clarity, incorporating negative space to subtly hint at a historic architectural form. This hidden detail serves as a visual metaphor — a quiet nod to the hidden stories Skeiron uncovers and preserves.

Branding Templates

To ensure brand consistency across every platform, I designed a full suite of digital branding templates, including:
Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter: Templates for posts, stories, reels, carousels, and cover images
YouTube: Branded caption styles, title graphics, and subtitle overlays
Social media post templates

In addition, I created merchandise designs and company uniforms that combined the new logo with Skeiron’s 3D models, resulting in uniquely branded materials that celebrate both craft and identity.

Post-Design Implementation

After delivering the final designs, I stayed closely involved to ensure a smooth implementation. This included:
Clarifying design details for developers
Reviewing live builds for consistency
Troubleshooting UI issues
I also partnered with Skeiron’s social media manager to roll out the new branding across all platforms, providing optimized Figma assets and guidance to ensure consistency.
As the project evolved, I helped improve the admin panel UX—restructuring navigation, refining page layouts, simplifying copy, and implementing the design using a modular component system. The result: a streamlined backend for managing Skeiron’s growing archive.

Reflections

This project was more than a rebrand — it was a chance to contribute to something lasting and meaningful. Collaborating with Skeiron gave me a deep appreciation for the role design plays in preserving the past. Their passion for heritage, innovation, and purpose made this one of the most fulfilling projects I’ve worked on.
Translating that passion into a visual identity that feels both modern and historically grounded was a rewarding creative challenge. I’m proud to have played a part in helping Skeiron share their mission with the world — and make their mark on the future of cultural preservation.
