Oishii is a fictional Japanese restaurant based in Europe, designed to offer an authentic and refined culinary experience. The restaurant invites its customers on a sensory journey to the heart of Japanese culture. It aspires to be an ambassador for Japanese cuisine in Europe, bringing freshness and authenticity to the experience and making it accessible to the general public.

The main objective of this project was to create a distinctive and authentic visual identity for a Japanese restaurant located in Europe. By harmonising the traditional elements of Japanese culture with contemporary European nuances, the aim of the project was to create a visual identity that was ‘accessible’ to the general public, characterised by its simplicity, liveliness and ability to capture attention.

Difficulties The fusion of Western and Asian cultures requires an understanding of the cultural nuances and aesthetic sensibilities specific to each tradition.

Capturing the delicate balance between these two worlds while retaining the authenticity and relevance of the designs is complex and requires in-depth research.

A methodical and creative approach was essential.

By analysing the distinct visual characteristics of these cultures, I fused the visual elements in an attempt to create a harmonious and balanced identity.

This in-depth research enabled me to understand how to effectively compile information and inspiration, and then translate it into coherent visuals.

This project helped me to understand the importance of in-depth research in merging different aesthetic sensibilities. 

By adopting a methodical approach, I had the opportunity to analyse and fuse the distinct visual characteristics of these cultures to create an identity, while trying to maintain the authenticity and relevance of the designs.
