Sometimes, the simplest tools are also the most effective. Social media is a wonderful tool to build and maintain an audience, but if a platform's popularity starts to wane, figuring out where your audience is migrating to next can be a daunting task. Meanwhile, an email newsletter can keep your loyal audience with you no matter where the tides of social media may take us.

I started off as a volunteer at Bluestockings in the fall of 2019. Eventually, I started working with a few of the volunteers and cooperative members to maintain their newsletter and help with fundraising efforts.

For their newsletter, I wrote and assembled copy every month for various emails. This included a bi-monthly Events email to advertise upcoming events at the store, a bi-monthly Books email to advertise books that were available for pre-order or purchase at the store, and promoting the store's membership benefits and fundraising efforts. This required working with multiple teams to ensure all necessary information was included in each email, and providing drafts in a timely manner so that cooperative members could review the emails before I sent them through Mailchimp.

Creating each email included copy writing, content writing, and formatting through Mailchimp's design features so that each email was easy to read. I also incorporated the store's marketing images, fonts, and image style guide so that each newsletter was consistent with the website's branding.
