What is Fluxion?

Fluxion is a lightweight Mobile Device Management tool built to track whether a machine is up to spec with Differential's security policies. The need for this tool became apparent after researching into all the other MDM tools available in the open market. While most tools can do the same and more, all of those tools are also accompanied by exorbitant fees. With my role as Head of Infrastructure and Cybersecurity at Differential, a tool like this was a must have but getting budget quickly proved to be challenging. A quick look into the core functionality most of these tools have revealed we could get most of what we needed with minimal effort though - this is when I got to cooking.

This internal project I ended up building completely by myself. I built a quick prototype in a few hours to test core functionality and having already built personal tooling in Electron, it was a quick path to wrap the functionality in a native-like taskbar application. Luckily it only took about a week to complete the project and having shown the prototype previously to stakeholders in the company, it was quickly accepted as a solution to the security problem Differential was facing.

Ultimately, this improved the companies' overall security profile at a fraction of the cost (we're talking fractions of a penny per month vs $1000s any other would've cost). The project does have all the must have functionality that premium software should have: privacy, bug tracking, and automatic deployments. Today, all machine's that employees use come packaged with Fluxion to ensure security.
