CookVerse: A Mobile-First Cooking Platform

Project Overview

CookVerse is a mobile-first cooking platform that allows users to explore healthy food recipes with photos, upload their own creations, and connect with a global cooking community. With support for user-generated content, grocery planning, and real-time cooking advice, the app combines aesthetics and usability to elevate everyday cooking.
Whether you're looking for easy recipes for beginners or want to share your grandmother’s signature dish, CookVerse provides the tools and experience to make it possible.

The Challenge

Most recipe apps are either overly simple or too complex. They don’t allow personalization, collaborative feedback, or seamless shopping integration. CookVerse was built to solve three key issues:
Give users the ability to upload their own cooking video or step-by-step recipe
Offer real-time advice from the community if a recipe goes wrong
Instantly turn recipes into categorized grocery lists

Target Users

Parents planning meals quickly and efficiently
Creators who want an app for sharing family recipes with the world
Health-conscious users browsing healthy food recipes with photos
Busy individuals who rely on a mobile cooking platform with grocery tools

Research & Insights

After conducting interviews with food bloggers, cooking novices, and busy professionals, three consistent pain points emerged:
“I want help when I mess up a recipe — not just a rating system.”
“I’d love to upload my own version of recipes or short how-to videos.”
“Switching between recipes and grocery apps feels frustrating.”
These insights helped us define the four design pillars: Create. Fix. Shop. Discover.

Core Features

Recipe Upload
Users can share step-by-step recipes, images, and even record short how-to clips — making this one of the few apps where you can upload your own cooking video and inspire others.
Ask & Fix System
Cooking is trial and error. The “Ask” and “Fix” comment features allow users to troubleshoot dishes with community advice like “use coconut cream instead” or “bake 5 minutes longer.”
Grocery List Integration
Users can add ingredients to their grocery list in one tap. CookVerse automatically categorizes items by type (e.g., dairy, dry goods, produce) for faster planning and shopping.
Discovery & Tag Filters
Filter recipes by meal type (e.g., Breakfast, Dinner), diet (e.g., Vegan, Gluten-Free), or popular categories like:
“Easy 15-Minute Meals”
“Family Favorites”
“TikTok Recipes”
“AI Food Assistant Picks”

UI Design Approach

Visual Language
Color Palette: Soft pastels and deep accents with dark mode support
Typography: Friendly, rounded sans-serif fonts for a casual tone
Imagery: Recipe cards and steps use full-width imagery with no clutter
Interaction: Smooth transitions, quick button responses, and scrollable elements keep the experience fluid
Accessibility & Usability
All recipe content is readable at a glance
Large tap targets for quick navigation during cooking
Recipe steps are easy to follow for beginners or multitaskers

Key Screens

Home Feed: A scrollable feed of trending and family recipe cards
Recipe Detail: Large imagery, prep time, ingredients, cook mode
Grocery View: Ingredients grouped for easy shopping
Explore Page: Filter by tags like “Easy Meals,” “One-Pot,” or “Low Carb”

Design Thinking Process

Empathize: Focused on new and casual cooks with varied tech comfort
Define: Prioritized recipe upload, visual step clarity, and feedback loops
Ideate: Created a wireframe system prioritizing photo-first layout
Prototype: Designed a high-fidelity prototype in Figma
Test: Conducted remote usability testing; iterated on recipe upload clarity
