Project Introduction

Turn.Io is a public benefit corporation (PBO) optimized to build world-class software products for social impact organizations. Turn.Io now works with over 150 social impact organizations who have built chat services to improve health, employment, education, climate, agriculture, humanitarian response, financial inclusion and civic engagement.

The Brief

The Turn team recognized the necessity to broaden and enhance their current brand assets, addressing any deficiencies in their visual identity. They aimed to transform it into practical and readily usable materials that would facilitate the communication of vital information both within and outside the organization. This involved molding the brand's execution across various platforms, such as social media, presentations, events, and beyond.

The Approach

We began by delineating Turn's brand DNA to assess what aspects of our storytelling and brand attributes needed emphasis. Given our primary clientele in Asia and Africa, we aimed to create a brand that resonated with the ethnicity and culture of these regions, striving for something that was approachable, vibrant, and reliable.

The Solution

Our approach to Turn's brand was centered on the concept of "Building Blocks." This choice was inspired by Turn's pivotal role in equipping businesses and NGOs with the essential tools necessary for building their platforms and expanding their reach, ultimately contributing to a positive impact on a larger scale. Keeping this concept in mind, we meticulously designed a modular brand system, featuring vibrant primary shapes that can be effortlessly rearranged and stacked to generate a wide array of distinct layouts. In addition to this, we created an illustration system to effectively convey the core ideas and steps within their digital product onboarding and usage. These illustrations, along with the building blocks, serve as the central visual elements of the brand. Both the building blocks and illustrations draw inspiration from Turn's four strategic pillars: Chat, Community, Technology, and Impact. Each of these pillars is associated with a fundamental shape from which all other shapes and illustrations are derived.
