Soccer Update US is the first generative AI dashboard and digital stadium built specifically for the American soccer fan. The US soccer ecosystem has a fundamental problem: global apps completely ignore state-based clubs, leaving local fandom fragmented and underserved. This project set out to fix that by building a localized, AI-powered platform that connects fans to their local clubs and converts that engagement into a monetizable experience.
The Problem
The US soccer ecosystem is fundamentally broken. Global applications treat American fans as an afterthought, with zero support for state-based clubs. There was no localized community architecture tailored to how American soccer fandom actually works: fans care about their local clubs, not just the Premier League or La Liga.
The result? A disconnected ecosystem where local fan communities had nowhere to gather, engage, or grow. The project needed to exist to bridge that gap and turn scattered fandom into something structured and sustainable.
UX Research & Key Insights
The primary insight driving every design decision: global apps fail local fans. American soccer supporters want to connect with their state-based clubs, follow local matches, and engage with nearby communities. No existing platform served that need.
This insight shaped the entire information architecture, pushing us toward a localized, tiered community model rather than the generic global feed that every competitor defaults to.
Information Architecture
The platform is structured around a localized, tiered community architecture. The hierarchy flows from official club announcements ("mega-phones") down to fan interactions ("AI-moderated fan terraces") and exclusive spaces ("VIP audio lounges").
This tiered approach ensures that official club content stays authoritative at the top, while fan-generated discussion and community engagement live in dedicated, moderated spaces below.
Design Solution
We built two core products:
Generative AI Dashboard — Personalized AI briefings tailored to each user's followed clubs, match schedules, and player stats. The dashboard merges deep-dive API statistics with contextual, one-tap affiliate merchandising, creating a frictionless path from fan engagement to commerce.
The Digital Stadium (Community UI) — A localized community hub where fans connect around their state-based clubs. The architecture includes official club mega-phones, AI-moderated fan terraces for open discussion, and VIP audio lounges for premium engagement.
The key design decision was turning traditional fantasy squad building ("The My XI Flex") into a seamless e-commerce pipeline. Users build their fantasy squads, explore deep player stats, and purchase official merchandise, all within the same flow.
Key Features
Generative AI Briefings — Personalized match previews, recaps, and insights generated for each user
The Digital Stadium — Localized community hub with tiered engagement layers
Tiered Community Architecture — Official club mega-phones, AI-moderated fan terraces, VIP audio lounges
The My XI Flex — Fantasy squad builder connected to deep-dive API stats and one-tap affiliate merchandising
State-Based Club Support — First platform to prioritize local US clubs over global leagues
Design System & Visual Notes
Typography: Rajdhani font family across the entire interface, chosen for its geometric, sport-forward character
Component System: Dedicated design system built to maintain visual consistency across the dashboard and community UI
Visual Direction: Dark-mode interface with high-contrast data visualizations optimized for real-time match tracking and stat consumption
Expected Impact
As a strategic product design solution, Soccer Update US is positioned to repair the broken US soccer ecosystem by converting fragmented fandom into localized, engaged communities. The frictionless e-commerce pipeline (fantasy squad → stats → merch) creates a clear revenue path, while the AI-powered personalization layer drives daily active engagement beyond match days.
