The Challenge

Booking a doctor's appointment shouldn't feel like navigating a bureaucracy. Yet most healthcare booking experiences involve phone calls during business hours, hold music, callback requests, and paper forms. Even the digital options are often clunky portals built for hospital IT departments, not patients. The result: people delay care because the booking process itself is a barrier.
This project focused on designing a healthcare appointment booking app that makes scheduling medical visits as easy as booking a restaurant. The goal: remove every friction point between "I need to see a doctor" and "my appointment is confirmed."

Design Approach

The design process started in Figma, where every screen was built around patient convenience and trust.
Key design decisions:
Doctor discovery with smart filters. Users search by specialty, symptom, location, insurance accepted, availability, and patient ratings. The search results show doctor photos, credentials, next available slot, and distance. Finding the right doctor takes seconds, not phone calls.
Real-time availability calendar. Available time slots are shown in a clean calendar view with morning, afternoon, and evening groupings. Users see exactly what's open and book instantly. No back-and-forth, no "we'll call you back."
Doctor profiles with trust signals. Each doctor profile shows credentials, specializations, years of experience, patient reviews, hospital affiliations, and languages spoken. Patients can make informed decisions before booking.
Health status dashboard. A personal health overview showing upcoming appointments, medication reminders, recent test results, and health metrics. The dashboard turns the app from a booking tool into a health companion.
Appointment management. View, reschedule, or cancel appointments with a few taps. Automatic reminders via push notification before each visit. Post-visit follow-up prompts for reviews and next appointment scheduling.
Medical records access. Secure storage for prescriptions, lab results, imaging reports, and visit summaries. Shareable with new doctors to avoid repeating medical history at every visit.
Calming, trustworthy visual design. Soft blues and whites with rounded elements create a clinical-yet-friendly aesthetic. The design communicates professionalism and care simultaneously. Medical iconography is clear and universally understood.

Patient Journey

The booking flow is designed to be completed in under 60 seconds:
Search by specialty or symptom
Compare doctors based on availability, ratings, and credentials
Select a time slot from the real-time calendar
Confirm with one tap (insurance and personal details saved from first visit)
Returning patients skip steps 1 and 2 entirely with a "Book Again" shortcut for their regular doctors.

The Result

A fully designed healthcare appointment booking app built in Figma, focused on removing friction from the patient booking experience. The design serves healthtech startups, telemedicine platforms, hospital networks, and clinic chains looking for a mobile app that increases appointment bookings through intuitive search, real-time scheduling, and a patient-centered design approach.
