Overview

I led the redesign of a live merchant dashboard that had grown increasingly complex as new products and features were added. The goal was to simplify the experience while keeping the platform flexible enough to support future expansion.

Problem

The dashboard was originally built for a narrow use case. As the product expanded, navigation and layouts became inconsistent, making it harder for merchants to complete key tasks and for teams to maintain the system.
The challenge was reducing complexity without disrupting active users or slowing ongoing development.

Constraints

Live product with existing merchants
Continuous feature releases during redesign
Multiple product areas within a single dashboard
Limited tolerance for breaking changes

My Role

Product Designer & Researcher I owned the redesign from problem framing to design execution, working closely with leadership, product, and engineering.

Key Decisions & Process

1. Prioritizing real usage over assumptions I analyzed usage patterns and qualitative feedback to identify which features mattered most and which could be deprioritized.
2. Restructuring the information architecture Features were reorganized around merchant goals rather than internal product groupings, improving clarity and discoverability.
3. Designing for consistency and scale I introduced shared layout patterns and components to reduce visual noise and make future features easier to add.
4. Iterating after launch After the first release, leadership requested further simplification. I led a second redesign pass focused on clarity, hierarchy, and consistency.

Outcome

Clearer navigation and reduced cognitive load
Faster onboarding to new features
Improved consistency across the dashboard
A scalable foundation for future growth

Learnings

Complexity compounds quickly in multi-product dashboards
Iteration after launch is critical to real improvement
Design systems are most valuable when paired with real product constraints
