HoursOwed: an Overtime and Shift Tracker I Built and Launched

HoursOwed is my own app for hourly workers, caregivers and nurses who want to check their paycheck against the hours they actually worked. Try it in your browser: https://flowlab-dev.github.io/hoursowed/

The hard part of a time tracker is the math, so that is where most of the work went. A shift can be split in two, cross midnight or include an unpaid break. Overtime is 1.5x after 40 hours a week, with daily rules for California. A raise starts on its date and leaves past pay periods as they were. The report splits each pay period by work week, the way payroll counts it.

To make sure the numbers hold up, 112 logic tests run in three time zones (Singapore, New York and Auckland), which catches midnight and daylight saving mistakes a single time zone would miss.

What ships with it: the app itself (Expo and React Native, works in the browser and installs on the home screen), a free plan and a 7-day Pro trial without a card, CSV and PDF reports, a landing page with 7 free calculator pages for search, a privacy policy and terms, App Store screenshots and Google Play listing texts.
