This project focused on building a diverse ad campaign, not just one video. Each ad explored a different emotional hook, gameplay angle, and marketing approach.

The situation

The studio behind SMASH Badminton wanted to scale their marketing creatives.
Instead of a single ad, the goal was to develop multiple ad concepts they could test, covering:
Skill and mastery
Fun and casual play
Rivalry and social play
Progression and improvement
High-pressure gameplay moments
They needed someone who could:
Ideate ad angles
Structure concepts clearly
Translate them into storyboards
Then execute them into real, usable ads

The goals

The main goals were:
Build a full set of ad creatives, not one-offs
Explore different hooks and narratives
Make the gameplay feel emotional and competitive
Present Smash Badminton as both:
Fun and friendly
Skill-based and serious
Each ad had to answer a different reason to play.

My creative approach

Before editing any video, I created dedicated storyboards for every concept.
Each storyboard defined:
The hook
The narrative idea
The emotional angle
How gameplay would be framed
The final call to action
Some of the creative directions included:
Reaction-speed challenges
Decision-making under pressure
Academy and skill-test narratives
Cute and playful jingle concepts
Rivalry-based UGC-style scenarios
Underdog progression stories
Boss-fight metaphors
“Unfair match” mind-game concepts
To support these ideas, I used a mix of:
Real gameplay capture
Motion design overlays
AI-generated animated scenes
Cinematic pacing and sound design
This allowed the ads to go beyond normal gameplay clips and feel like mini-stories built around the mechanics.

Deliverables

10 fully produced video ads
Each ad based on a unique storyboard
