Coyote Highlands Wine and Estates, a private vineyard nestled in the rolling hills of San Martin, California, approached us with a unique challenge: create a brand identity and packaging system that would honor the legacy of winemaking while embracing a bold, unconventional spirit.
Known for its small-batch, boundary-pushing vintages, Coyote Highlands wanted a brand that reflected both its roots and its rebellion.
I led the design of a multi-tiered identity system that seamlessly blended old-world sophistication with a fresh, contemporary edge. Drawing inspiration from traditional wine heritage, I incorporated vintage-style typography and subtle nods to classic label design—but gave those elements new energy through modern layout structures and a confident, unexpected color palette that broke away from the typical wine world aesthetic.
To bring their story to life visually, I developed a series of playful, hand-drawn illustrations of native California wildlife—foxes, coyotes, birds—all infused with a touch of wit and personality. These illustrations weren’t just decorative; they were strategic storytelling elements, capturing the vineyard’s wild charm and the independent ethos behind their winemaking philosophy.
