Project Context:
Abbott, a leader in health technology, requested the creation of an app to enhance attendee engagement at an international congress. The platform was designed to integrate features like user interaction, gamified challenges, and a space for sharing photos and impressions, promoting a unique and participatory experience.
My Role:
As a Senior UX/UI Designer, I led the project from initial research to the development of a high-fidelity prototype, including:
Initial research: Understanding attendee expectations and client objectives through thorough documentation analysis.
Conceptualization and functional design: Mapping key user flows and defining the app’s information architecture.
Interface design: Creating high-fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes reflecting the desired experience.
Design and Development Process:
Initial Research:
Goals: Increase attendee engagement and foster interaction through challenges, rankings, and group chats.
User analysis: Profiles included researchers, doctors, and students with varied levels of tech familiarity.
Defined needs: A simple, accessible interface with dynamic features like gamified challenges and rankings.
Conceptualization and Definition:
Information architecture: Clear sections for registration, profiles, challenges, rankings, and photo sharing.
User flows: Designed workflows for key features:
User registration.
Navigation of rankings and participation in challenges.
Uploading photos and using group chat.
Key functionalities: Personalized profiles, gamification, and multimedia sharing.
Home screen: Welcome message with quick access to main sections.
User profiles: Personal info and editing options.
Challenges and rankings: Gamified design with clear points visualization.
Multimedia space: Photo galleries with upload and comment features.
Visual design: Vibrant colors and modern typography to match the event’s dynamic nature.
Interactive prototype: Simulated key flows, including user registration, challenge participation, group chat interaction, and real-time ranking exploration.
Internal Validation and Feedback:
Testing: Validated flows and interface accessibility with a representative user group.
Feedback-based iterations: Adjusted button sizes, color contrasts, and simplified the photo upload flow for improved usability.
Current Status and Next Steps:
The design has been approved and is currently in development. Upcoming steps include:
User testing: Validating the app in a test environment with congress attendees.
Official launch: Implementing final adjustments and deploying the app for the event.
Expected Results:
Increased engagement: Gamification and interactive features are expected to significantly boost attendee participation.
Personalized experience: A tailored space for user needs, fostering connections among participants.
Event optimization: The app will allow Abbott to collect data and measure the impact of activities in real-time.
