The Challenge
While platforms like OpenSea dominated the NFT marketplace with traditional buy/sell mechanics, collectors faced a critical limitation: no ability to generate passive value or negotiate trades after the initial mint. NFT holders were locked into a single transaction model—list for sale at a fixed price or hold indefinitely.
This created three core pain points:
Limited liquidity options - Collectors couldn't leverage their NFT portfolios for strategic trades
Missed opportunities - No mechanism to exchange multiple NFTs in bundle deals or cross-collection swaps
Zero passive income potential - Post-mint, assets remained static unless sold outright
Our research with the Discord community revealed that 73% of active collectors wanted more flexible trading mechanisms beyond simple buying and selling.

The Solution
Hexagon introduced a curated, multi-chain NFT marketplace featuring an innovative peer-to-peer trading system that enabled users to propose complex, multi-asset swap deals, effectively creating a new passive income stream and liquidity mechanism for digital collectors.
Key Features
1. Curated Verification System
We implemented a rigorous quality verification process, ensuring only high-quality collections appeared on the platform, building trust and reducing scam risk.
2. Peer-to-Peer Trading Engine
Users could propose trade offers on any verified NFT, view the owner's entire portfolio, and bundle multiple assets into a single deal—creating unprecedented flexibility in NFT transactions.
3. Multi-Chain Support
Cross-chain compatibility (Ethereum, Polygon, Solana) expanded trading possibilities and reduced gas fee barriers.

My Role & Process
As Lead Product Designer, I spearheaded the end-to-end design strategy, collaborating closely with leadership to define the product vision and mentoring two junior designers throughout its execution.
Design Highlights
1. Collection Page - Curated Discovery
The collection page emphasized trust through verification badges, clear statistics (items, owners, volume, floor price), and an intuitive filter system. The "For sale" filter dropdown showcased our unique value prop by including "Has offers" alongside standard listing types.
2. Profile Page - Portfolio at a Glance
User profiles displayed comprehensive NFT holdings across chains, transaction history, and estimated portfolio value—critical for evaluating trade partners.
3. Trading Modal - Simplified Complexity
The trade proposal interface distilled a complex multi-step process into a clean, guided experience:
Left panel: Target NFT and owner's portfolio with filters
Center: Deal composition showing both sides of the trade
Right panel: Value calculator and submit button
4. Landing Page - Clear Value Proposition
The homepage communicated our three-step process (Connect wallet → Explore collections → Buy, sell, or trade) with bold typography and featured collections showcasing platform quality.

While specific metrics were limited post-launch, the platform achieved:
20,000+ Discord community members engaged pre and post-launch
Successful verification pipeline processing 50+ collections in first month
Positive sentiment in community feedback on trading feature usability
Technical feasibility confirmed through beta testing with zero critical bugs on trading contracts
The trading feature positioned Hexagon as a differentiated alternative to OpenSea's traditional marketplace model, appealing to sophisticated collectors seeking portfolio flexibility.
