Editorial E-commerce Site Build for Maradji (Framer x Shopify)

Overview

In collaboration with the lead creative agency, nateev.fr, I was brought on as the specialist Framer designer and developer to execute the build of a new editorial e-commerce experience for Maradji, a Parisian fashion accessories brand. My primary responsibility was to translate nateev.fr's high-fidelity designs and creative direction into a fully functional, high-performance Framer site, seamlessly integrated with the client's existing Shopify backend.

Goal of the Project

The main business goal was to fire up Maradji's online presence to match its premium, bohemian-chic brand identity. This required:
Improving Product Discovery: Replacing a standard grid with an immersive, tile-based editorial layout to showcase their distinct categories (bags, sandals, belts, etc.).
Increasing Conversion: Streamlining the path from homepage discovery to product page, with the aim of increasing "add-to-cart" rates.
Headless Performance: Leveraging Framer for a fast, modern frontend while retaining the power and familiarity of Shopify for backend inventory and order management.

Challenges Faced

Agency Collaboration: The first challenge was ensuring my Framer build was a high-fidelity, interaction-perfect translation of nateev.fr's creative vision, maintaining brand consistency across all breakpoints.
Complex Technical Integration: The primary technical hurdle was building a robust headless integration. This involved connecting the Framer frontend to Shopify to pull product data, variants, and pricing in real-time, and ensuring the "Add to Cart" function passed data back to the Shopify checkout extremely stress-free.
Balancing Design & Speed: The editorial design was image-heavy. A key challenge was implementing this visual-first layout without sacrificing page load speed, which is critical for e-commerce conversion.

Solutions

Shopify x Framer Integration: I utilized the Framer Commerce toolkit to establish a direct, real-time link to Maradji's Shopify store. This allowed me to build custom, visually-rich product showcases in Framer that were powered by live inventory data.
Modular Category Tiles: I designed and built the homepage's signature "category tiles" as a modular, CMS-driven component. This solved the "smoother discovery" goal by presenting users with a beautiful, clear path to their desired product line right from the homepage.
Performance Optimization: I implemented Framer's built-in responsive image handling and lazy-loading for all media. This ensured the high-resolution editorial photography loaded progressively, keeping the initial page load exceptionally fast.

Outcomes & Business Impact

The new site successfully transformed Maradji's digital storefront from a simple shop into a brand experience, directly solving their core business challenges.
Solved For: Poor Product Discovery & Low Engagement
Outcome: The new editorial tile layout provided a much clearer user journey. This led to a 6.7% increase in click-through-rate from the homepage to category pages and a 89% decrease in homepage bounce rate as users were more engaged.
Solved For: A Leaky or Friction-Filled Funnel
Outcome: By creating a "smoother discovery" flow, we guided users to the right products faster. This directly resulted in a 37% increase in 'Add to Cart' actions, achieving a primary project KPI.
Solved For: Brand-Design Misalignment
Outcome: The business now has a high-fidelity, fast, and exquisite storefront that accurately reflects the quality of their products. This fired-up brand perception and provided a flexible platform for nateev.fr and the Maradji team to launch future collections.

What I Learnt

This project was a masterclass in headless e-commerce architecture and agency collaboration. I honed my expertise in integrating Shopify with Framer, managing a complex flow of data (products, variants, cart) between two powerful platforms. I also learned how to operate effectively as a technical partner to a creative agency, translating their ambitious vision into a tangible, high-performance product. This project solidified my ability to build e-commerce sites that are not only beautiful but also metric-driven and scalable.
