Razor & Grain Barbershop Brand Identity
A self-initiated barbershop concept fusing classic barbering heritage with contemporary grooming culture through logo, typography, signage, and environmental design.
The Challenge
Create a visual language rooted in classic barbershop culture without relying on clichés. The brand needed to treat every cut and shave as a crafted ritual, communicating trust, skill, and character while feeling refined enough for today's grooming audience.
The Approach
I started with discovery and research, studying traditional barbershop cues like vintage signage, wood textures, and metal details alongside contemporary grooming brands. Mapping core attributes—heritage, precision, and ritual—I built moodboards to test how far the visuals could push into modern territory without losing that rooted barbershop feel.
From there, I developed a modular identity system centered on a monogram inspired by vintage signage and a wordmark that works at different scales. I established a typographic hierarchy balancing bold display type with clean supporting type, and built a warm, restrained palette connecting to interior materials like brick, leather, and wood.
I applied the system across signage, barber capes, storefront applications, and grooming product concepts, refining composition and hierarchy at each touchpoint to ensure consistency and legibility.
The Solution
The final identity uses sturdy typography, warm materials, and a confident monogram to communicate precision, trust, and slightly rugged elegance.
The palette draws from rich, warm tones that pair with confident typography and a bold mark to express craft and precision. Clean compositions and controlled contrast keep the work contemporary while details nod to traditional barbershops.

The system extends seamlessly across storefront signage, interior applications, barber cape patterns, and grooming product concepts—each element reinforcing the same story of heritage meets modern craft.
The Impact
Razor & Grain now presents as a modern barbershop grounded in ritual and craft. The flexible brand language moves comfortably between print, environmental graphics, and digital touchpoints while maintaining a strong, recognizable presence that feels both heritage-rich and distinctly contemporary.
