I used to think my dad was just naturally strong. He always had an answer. Always found a way. Always showed up even on the days when life was clearly asking too much of him. As a child, you don’t notice the pauses before he says, “I’m fine.” You don’t notice how often he puts something back on the shelf so you can have what you need. You don’t notice the weight behind, “Don’t worry, I will handle it.” You only understand it later when you’re older, paying your own bills, making difficult decisions, and realizing that the people who made life feel safe were often carrying the most fear in silence. That’s the kind of love many fathers give: quiet, practical, and easy to overlook because it arrives disguised as responsibility. So if your father is still here, call him. Not because you need anything. Just because sometimes the people who spent their whole lives showing up deserve to know they were seen. Some sacrifices are so constant, they start to look ordinary.
