With all the hype about Opus 5.5 and it's seemingly amazing design skills I gave it the task to redesign the UI in my game. Mainly the upgrade screens, the count down screen and the main screen. Very basic prompt and I'm not a fan of the final result, but it was worth a try. It gave me a few style choices to pick between and I chose the cartoon style, so it's probably my own fault. 😃 Gameplay wise, I have made a few changes too. I've made the arenas 20% larger, upped the enemy count and a few other tweaks. Now I want to try the new Rive CLI to create all the UI and implement it into the game using the Rive unity plugin.

I tested Opus 5.5 and had it build an arcade game in Unity using the CLI and Claude Code. The game is called Heatwave and is a quick and fun little police chase game. Of all the games I've made, this is actually the one I enjoy to test the most. I'm terrible at it, but it's fun.

Back in 2016 I made a lot of cinemagraphs for HBO. They took a surprising amount of work. Masking footage, finding the right loop, freezing parts of the frame and getting everything to transition cleanly. I’ve had an idea for a simpler cinemagraph tool kicking around in my head ever since. About a month ago I built another small tool using Toolcraft as the starting point, so yesterday I wanted to see if it could handle this idea too. A few hours later I had a working cinemagraph editor. Drop in a video → find your loop → choose how it loops → paint the areas you want to keep still → export. Basically the workflow I used 10 years ago, condensed into a few controls. Still rough around the edges, but kind of wild to finally build a tool I’ve been thinking about for a decade.

The goal was to combine the public website and day-to-day administration in one maintainable system. The website is no longer live because the organization has since ceased operations. The project was completed and delivered while the organization was active.

The expected outcomes below are proposed acceptance criteria, not executed test results. The six-step example: receive a request → validate fields → classify it → log it → email an acknowledgement → notify the owner. In this deliberately flawed version, invalid input has no route, the log continues after failure, acknowledgement is recorded before sending, and IDs come from timestamps. Five checks: Missing email: retain a NEEDS_REVIEW record and alert the owner; send no acknowledgement. Logging failure: stop before emailing a reference that was never stored. Uncertain email send: mark UNCERTAIN and reconcile delivery status. Never blindly retry after a timeout. Repeated event: use a stable provider event ID or explicit idempotency key.
