FestivalOversigt.dk - Festival Discovery & Data Platform
Building a Data-Driven Festival Discovery Platform
FestivalOversigt.dk was created to make discovering festivals in Denmark easier by bringing fragmented festival information into one structured platform. The product needed to handle continuously changing dates, locations, ticket information, lineups, and practical details while still providing a fast and simple experience for visitors.
The Challenge
Festival information is spread across individual websites, ticket providers, social platforms, and announcements, and the underlying data changes continuously. The challenge was therefore not only building a searchable frontend, but creating a reliable data model and publishing workflow that could distinguish festivals from individual yearly editions, prevent incomplete records from being published, and keep information maintainable as the dataset grew.
The Solution
I built FestivalOversigt.dk as a structured discovery platform with Next.js, TypeScript, Supabase, and PostgreSQL. Festival and edition data is stored separately, allowing dates, tickets, lineups, sources, and practical information to evolve independently for each year. The frontend provides search and discovery functionality while the underlying publishing rules and data-quality workflows control which editions are ready to appear publicly.
Festival discovery interface designed to turn a growing structured dataset into a fast and accessible browsing experience.
Data Architecture & Quality
A major part of the project is the data layer behind the interface. Festivals and yearly editions are modeled separately, with structured fields for dates, locations, tickets, sources, practical information, and related data. Automated audits and publishing rules are used to identify missing or inconsistent information before records become publicly visible.
Key Features
Structured festival and yearly edition data stored in Supabase
Search and filtering across the festival catalogue
Dedicated festival and yearly overview pages
Publishing rules that prevent incomplete editions from going live
Data-quality auditing and enrichment workflows
Danish, English, and German localized routes
Canonical URLs, hreflang, sitemaps, and structured event data
Responsive layouts across desktop and mobile
GA4 tracking with Consent Mode v2
Newsletter integration for festival updates
Internationalization & SEO
The platform was expanded from a Danish-only product into a multilingual architecture supporting Danish, English, and German. Localized routes, canonical URLs, hreflang relationships, separate sitemap coverage, and translated content allow the same structured festival data to serve multiple audiences without duplicating the underlying records.
Festival detail pages transform structured edition data into clear information about dates, location, tickets, lineup, and practical details.
SEO is built into the platform architecture rather than added as a separate layer. Festival and edition pages use structured metadata, canonical URLs, localized hreflang relationships, dedicated sitemaps, and Event structured data to make the underlying dataset understandable to both users and search engines.
The Result
FestivalOversigt.dk has developed into an actively maintained festival database rather than a static directory. At the time of this case study, the platform contains 149 active 2027 editions, including 112 published editions, with publishing rules ensuring that no public edition violates the current data-quality policy. The underlying architecture allows the catalogue, languages, content, and dataset to continue expanding without rebuilding the platform.
My Role
I designed, developed, and operate the platform end to end, including product architecture, UX/UI, frontend development, Supabase and PostgreSQL data modeling, data-quality workflows, internationalization, technical SEO, analytics, deployment, and ongoing dataset maintenance.
Built a multilingual festival discovery platform with structured data, search, SEO, and a Supabase backend for maintaining Danish festival information.
