Long overdue portfolio website update. Built with Three.js & Blender. Looking to build interactive 3D websites? Lets talk!

What should flying cars feel like? Should we expect drivers to suddenly become aircraft pilots? I thought no, that's what I wanted to explore for my Rive HMI submission. An automated airtaxi that you call from a mobile device, you jump on board and all you have to do is hit confirm. What does the vehicle share with the passenger? I didn't want to overwhelm them with vehicle metrics like pitch, yaw, or angle degrees, I thought maybe all they really need to know is where they are, where they are headed, and how long their trip will be. Definitely going to keep exploring this beyond the competition!

Over the past few years I've had the chance to build a series of interactive real-time experiences for major aerospace and defense clients, deployed at large-scale industry events including the Space Symposium.
Three projects, three very different briefs:
A lunar rover experience, an abstract real-time game built around cybersecurity themes, and a satellite model viewer. All optimized for real-time 3D.
All three required the same core skillset: taking highly technical subject matter, building it into something visually compelling and interactive in Unity, and shipping it to run reliably in a live event environment in front of thousands of people.
That's the work I love doing. If you're building something interactive for a launch, a convention, a brand activation, or an enterprise experience, let's talk.

I've compiled my favorite pieces from the past 8 years, professional and personal! Currently available to take on new projects. If you have needs for real-time 3d, interactive design, or game design, lets talk!

Space station sim update! Been working on some more systems to actually feel like the administrator of this space station. I got the bones of a construction mode working, where you're responsible for station traffic flow, power management & life support capacity. Everything will have a cost, pros and cons. Also have a dialogue system in the works, so you can talk to spacecraft captains to figure out what they're up to, and if they're lying, and maybe they'll pay you a little extra to look the other way.

Didn't have much time to make something complex so I made something silly with Rive scripting. Created these Screaming Noodles based on a weird drawing I made a few months ago. Noodle rig & eyes follow the mouse cursor(scripted), added in some sounds from the library as well. Rive scripting really made an already powerful tool 10x more powerful, I can't wait to keep exploring new use cases and excited to see what other people brew up with these new possibilities!

The latest additions to my space station sim game, the full arrival - clear - depart loop is functional. Redesigned how the manifest item table for better readability + now ships have a semi-random chance of having missing permits. citing violations of regulations now possible, and also modeled a default spacecraft! also refined the spacecraft's approach to the gate, giving the spacecraft a bit more weight in space.

Connected more features in my space sim made in Unity to Rive graphics. Also gave the spacecraft more pathfinding logic, making them appear actually piloted(needs a little more work). Some tracking graphics are still a little jumpy but otherwise prototype is looking good!

Just a little work in progress, learning to integrate Rive animations in Unity. Started this project as a way to just learn Rive runtime integration in Unity but it quickly evolved into something bigger so uhh, stay tuned!

In 2023, I led the creative direction and environment design for this LEGO Rebuild the World campaign AR experience, developed in 8th Wall. I created the environment & story, designed a custom animation pipeline, directing two other animators to bring the experience to life. The project encouraged LEGO fans to recycle, remix, and reimagine their sets, celebrating creativity, sustainability, and the spirit of play.

This might be a little different than what I usually see on here, when I'm not working on 3D animations / design, I'm actively world building & writing a sci-fi world set in our solar system in the near future. (actually, a lot of my 3d animations are for this world) it's written in collaboration with one of my big-brain(too smart for his own good) friends. If you like sci-fi, and want to come along for the ride as this world unfolds, give us a read on substack, we release new chapters monthly! https://dmbabylon2185.substack.com/?utm_campaign=pub&utm_medium=web

Last year, I discovered Rive. I immediately fell in love with it's state machine features. To teach myself it's capabilities, I set out to build a sample portfolio site using just rive and a few 3d renders. This was the result!

For the past few years, most of my previous projects were in the interactive experience / retailtainment space. so just wanted to make a quick product render sample to prove to myself that I can do it, and would love an opportunity to render products! what are some project types you'd love to work on that you haven't really had the opportunity to do so yet?

Hello everyone!, it's an honor to be among such talented creatives on this network! I'm Dan, and I wanted to share my reel of my latest, mostly personal IP, but with some client work. Looking forward to connecting with other creatives & hopefully we'll get to work on something together!
