The problem - reorder math built for one PO, applied to brands running three.
Most inventory tools assume a single lead time per SKU, order, wait, restock, repeat. That assumption holds at low volume. It stops holding once a brand is doing real revenue, running ad spend hard enough that purchase orders overlap: one batch landing on the 12th, another placed three weeks earlier landing on the 30th, sell-through shifting week to week depending on which SKUs the ads are currently pushing.
Standard days-of-cover math can't see that. It has no concept of multiple open POs each running their own countdown, or of a bestseller and a slow mover sitting in the same product line with completely different runway.
I build inventory systems for Shopify DTC brands specifically around this gap, batch-and-lead-time-aware reorder logic, velocity-weighted stockout alerts, and dead stock classification, so the founder gets a clear "order X units of Y now" instead of an abstract dashboard number they still have to interpret themselves.
If your brand has more than one purchase order open at a time and you're still working off a single blended lead time, that's the exact problem I solve.
