I designed this full-wrap paperback cover for The Well by Samuel Small, crafting a chilling and atmospheric visual identity perfectly tailored to signal paranormal horror and supernatural suspense to prospective readers.
Key Design Highlights
Atmospheric Compositing: Centered the composition around an abandoned, decaying stone well isolated deep within a dense, fog-drenched forest, immediately establishing a profound sense of isolation and dread.
Eerie Color Grading: Utilized a highly desaturated, monochromatic color palette dominated by sickly greens and deep, crushing shadows. I highlighted the central well with a pale, ethereal moonlight glow to draw the eye and evoke a classic haunted aesthetic.
Customized Horror Typography: Developed a striking title treatment for The Well using a bold, high-contrast block font distressed with intricate, root-like cracks and fractures. This customized text perfectly mirrors the narrative's themes of decay and deeply buried secrets.
Print-Ready Wrap & Typesetting: Delivered a cohesive, print-ready layout spanning the front, spine, and back panels. I structured the extensive back cover blurb with crisp, legible typography against the dark woodland backdrop to ensure effortless reading, while leaving precise spacing for the standard barcode placement.
