The number on your dashboard might not be the number that's actually true.
Here's a pattern that shows up constantly in inventory-heavy operations: a sync drifts, quietly, during a routine update. Nobody notices for a few days. The dashboard says 42 units. The warehouse has 9.
Nobody did anything wrong. It's not a fraud story or a negligence story. It's a small technical drift that happened to land on the wrong SKU at the wrong time.
What happens next is the part worth paying attention to. A team member starts a side spreadsheet, checked by hand before any promise gets made to a customer. That spreadsheet, not the dashboard the company is paying for, quietly becomes the real system of record.
Once a team stops trusting the numbers on their screen, every reorder decision becomes a guess with a UI sitting on top of it. The tool isn't the problem at that point. The drift underneath it is.
