What actually creates activation in a focus product?
🛡️ A - Protection-first The user immediately sees what the system will remove from their path: notifications, Slack, calendar conflicts & other likely interruptions
⚡ B -Preparation-first The product first creates a sense of readiness for deep work: conditions are set, the focus window is clear, & the goal is defined
I’m less interested in which screen looks better
The real question is: At what point does the user think, “Okay, this product can actually help me do better work”? What creates a stronger activation moment — and potentially stronger retention?
🛡️A or⚡B
And one level deeper:
Should a productivity product sell users control over distractions, or confidence that they are entering the right conditions to do meaningful work?

Glad A feels sharper, that was exactly what I was testing here.

the copy on A creates such a strong sense of urgency, i think it's a no-brainer for me!

Exactly A makes the value feel immediate. I was curious whether that stronger urgency would win🏅

Screen A gives me clear information on what the app does without any stress or taking too much time to read through.

That’s a great point. Reducing the time it takes to understand the core value was one of the main goals with A

Definitely A, it gives clear information in less seconds than B

Protection first..Give users the room to trust the product immediately. A immediately tells them the removal of distractions. That’s a strong product goal. Great work, Anna!

Love this interpretation. Trust first, then everything else — and A communicates that protection much faster 🚀

My gut says B wins on activation but A wins on retention. Protection feels urgent right in the moment, preparation is what actually makes someone open the app again tomorrow. Curious if your testing points the other way.

Interesting, I was actually thinking almost the opposite. A feels stronger for activation because the value lands instantly, while B gives more of a reason to come back and keep preparing. That’s exactly why I wanted to test them side by side

A 💯 Amazing UI😻

I’d go with ⚡ B — Preparation-first, Creating that feeling of readiness makes the product feel like a partner in the process, not just another tool blocking distractions, Really interesting UX question! 👏

I believe A option is better because it help users spend less time to understand the reasoning behind this page

I’d pick A. Showing users exactly what gets removed makes the value click a bit faster.

I’d go with B. Feeling ready to focus feels like a stronger first experience than removing distractions.

Protection-first feels more honest about how focus actually works. Telling someone to 'set conditions' assumes they already know what disrupts them. Blocking the interruptions is the more direct path.
