In the spirit of Inktober, a digital sketch that never saw the light.
This was a lettering-inspired brandmark sketch playing with the letter K and the movement of hair. I archived it before presenting it. Not because I didn’t like...
The K on the tablet has more life than most finished marks I see, and the glossy metal piece in the third frame shows the curve can carry weight outside a screen. Honest pushback: a mark this strong sitting in an archive is the real cost of skipping the pitch. Did the K lose on legibility, or was it the direction?
Local SEO results I delivered over the last month for a roofing client serving 21 NJ counties:
→ 982 page views
→ 404 engaged sessions (41% engagement rate)
→ 391 first-time visitors
→ 32 form submissions
→ 8 call-now clicks
→ 40 total qualified lead actions
That is a 9.9% conversion rate from engaged session to lead action. For a service business in a competitive local market, that is the number that matters. I ranked them #1 on high-intent emergency queries like “roof leak repair NJ” and “roofing and chimney repair Bergen County.”
My playbook: tight on-page optimization I executed across service and location pages, an aggressive citation campaign I ran for NAP consistency, Google Business Profile I manage as a daily asset not a set-and-forget listing, and editorial content I targeted at the exact queries homeowners type at 2am when a storm hits.
If you run a home services business and your website is generating traffic but not leads, there is usually a fixable gap between the two. I would be happy to take a look. Message me to start a conversation.
"the exact queries homeowners type at 2am when a storm hits" is such a clear way to think about roofing. how did you connect with that roofing client
Friday Question: When Did You Last Check Your Website on Your Phone? 📱
Not on your laptop.
Not in the editor preview.
On your actual phone. The way your customers see it.
This week I did exactly that with my own website. And I didn’t love what I saw.
The menu button was plain. The dropdown felt like an afterthought. And the most important button, “Let’s Talk,” was just another line of text in a list.
So I rebuilt it.
✔ A clearer menu button
✔ A proper slide-out menu
✔ A call-to-action you can’t miss
Nothing was “broken.” It just wasn’t helping anyone take the next step.
Here’s a 60-second test you can do right now:
→ Open your website on your phone
→ Tap the menu
→ Try to contact yourself
How many taps did it take? Did anything feel awkward?
