40,000+ payment events a month. Each one needing to route to the right downstream system.
A fintech client had a payment processing flow built across two platforms — Make.com handling transformation logic, Zapier handling CRM and notifications. They worked fine in isolation but coordinating them was a mess. Events triggered in the parent system needed to fan out to child workflows conditionally, based on payment type, amount range, and currency.
I built a webhook routing layer that acts as the orchestrator. Incoming payment events hit a central endpoint, get classified, then get dispatched to the right child webhook — all within seconds.
The tricky part wasn't the routing. It was making it resilient. At that volume, occasional webhook failures are inevitable. We built in retry logic and a dead-letter queue so nothing gets silently dropped.
It now runs 40,000+ executions a month without anyone touching it.
High-volume automation isn't just about moving fast. It's about failing gracefully when things go sideways.
