Summary

Process mapping is a visual practice used to gain a clearer understanding of how a process works and typically includes a diagram mapping the flow of work or all the steps that make up a business process.
We will work to detail a process map using 5 steps:
Gather background information
Define core process
Draft preliminary Process Map
Revise process map
Provide finalized process map
Gather background information
A conversation to discuss the questions (below), understand if there are existing standard operating procedures or guides for the process.
What flows in and out of the process
Who are the customers for this process
What is the high-level process, from start to completion
Who are the suppliers of the given process?
What requirements should the inputs fulfill?
Who are your actual customers?
What specification do customers want for the end product?
Define core process
Starting with the background information as a foundation, we will move through a simple tool, a SIPOC, to outline the scope.
Draft Preliminary Process Map
Provide a draft version for review to the client to request a revision
Review Process Map
Review the nearly finalized process map to ensure all edits and that the process map is a finalized
Provide Finalized Process Map
Send finalized map to client
