Discovery & Research (or UX Review)
This phase is adaptable to either creating new designs or reviewing existing solutions. If working on an existing product, a UX review is conducted to assess its current state, identify pain points, and suggest improvements. For new products, traditional research methods are employed to establish a strong foundation. Deliverables: 1. User Research (if needed): Conducting interviews, surveys, and usability tests to gather new insights or validate assumptions. 2. UX Review: Evaluating existing designs or solutions to identify usability issues, areas for improvement, and opportunities for optimization. 3. User Personas & Empathy Maps (if needed): Developing or refining user personas and empathy maps based on existing user data or new research.
Conceptualization
During this phase, key ideas are transformed into tangible wireframes, ensuring a clear direction for the overall design. Deliverables: 1. Wireframes: Low-fidelity wireframes that define the basic layout and structure of the interface. 2. User Testing (Early): Testing wireframes with users to validate the overall structure and navigation before moving into high-fidelity design.
Design Execution
In this phase, the design moves from wireframes to fully polished mockups, interactive prototypes, and a comprehensive design system, ensuring visual consistency and brand alignment. Deliverables: 1. High-Fidelity Mockups: Detailed mockups that bring the visual design to life, including branding and interface design. 2. Interactive Prototypes: Clickable prototypes to test user flows and interactions. 3. Design Systems: Reusable design components, UI patterns, and style guides to ensure consistency across all platforms.
Testing & Iteration
This phase focuses on refining the design based on user feedback and usability testing, ensuring the product meets user needs before development. Deliverables: Conducting tests with real users to validate design decisions and identify any usability issues.
Design Handoff
Here, the finalized designs are handed over to the development team with all necessary assets and documentation to guide the build process. Deliverables: Detailed design specifications, assets, and documentation for developers to ensure smooth implementation.
Post-Launch Support
After launch, continued support is offered to ensure the product remains effective and user-friendly, adapting to any changes needed over time. Deliverables: Post-Launch Support: ongoing design updates and support to address any issues or improvements post-launch.
