Case Study: Dignity and Power Now Website Redesign

Overview

Dignity and Power Now (DPN) is a Los Angeles–based grassroots organization founded in 2012 that fights for the dignity and power of incarcerated people, their families, and communities. Their mission is rooted in building Black- and Brown-led abolitionist movements through transformative justice and community power.
The organization’s existing WordPress site had become outdated, difficult to manage, and slow to update. They needed a modern, accessible platform that aligned with their mission and allowed their team to easily publish programs, mutual aid resources, and organizational updates.

My Role

Led the full redesign and rebuild of the website
Migrated content and functionality from WordPress to Webflow
Ensured the design reflected the organization’s grassroots identity while providing clarity and usability

Challenges

Outdated WordPress site with limited flexibility and poor content management
Accessibility gaps that limited audience reach
Difficulty highlighting key initiatives like Programs, Mutual Aid, and Community Resources

Solution

Migration to Webflow: Rebuilt the site with a CMS-driven structure for programs, news, and resources.
Redesigned user experience: Created a bold, clean layout that communicates DPN’s mission clearly and supports storytelling through imagery and copy.
Improved accessibility: Applied WCAG-friendly practices including semantic HTML, clear headings, alt text, and high-contrast design.
Empowered team publishing: Structured Webflow CMS so staff can independently add programs, blog posts, and updates without developer assistance.

Results

A modernized website that reflects DPN’s values and mission
Streamlined publishing workflow for staff and volunteers
Improved accessibility and performance, ensuring the site serves the widest possible audience
A platform that positions DPN for future growth and ongoing advocacy work
