Casa Mocán — Atlantic Heritage Brand Identity for a mansion converted into a boutique hotel in Tenerife Brand Strategy · Brand Narrative · Naming · Visual Identity · Art Direction
An early-twentieth-century mansion in La Laguna — a UNESCO World Heritage city and former Atlantic hub between Europe, Africa and the Americas — was becoming an 18-room luxury hotel.
The challenge Build an identity that carries four centuries of history without becoming a museum, and positions the property in the luxury segment without losing the local idenity. The strategy The strategic decision was to build the identity around a single concept — Anterioridad: This house didn't join the hospitality industry. It preceded it.
Naming was the first expression. Mocán — the only tree of its genus in the world, endemic to the Canary Islands, with Guanche linguistic origin and documented by British naturalist Francis Masson in 1778 — provided an anchor with absolute singularity, verifiable history and local roots free of every Canarian cliché. The descriptor Atlantic Heritage completed the positioning: geographic scale without losing territorial specificity, historical depth without category language.
The solution A dual-register visual system mirroring the hotel's hybrid architecture: a custom organic typeface drawn from the forms of the Mocán flower, paired with a clean geometric symbol that carries the contemporary register. A six-tone palette where every colour traces back to the origin of the concept: the Mocán tree. A geometric pattern derived from the perfectly imperfect hand-laid stone walls of the exterior of the property — a subtle translation of the building's own materiality into the graphic system. Together, these elements build an identity where every decision has a traceable origin in the place itself. The result is an identity with a verifiable story at every level — one the press can publish, the guest can carry with them, and no competitor can claim.
