Project Overview
Title: Basketball Shots Tracker – Enhancing Game Performance Role: UI/UX Designer Tools Used: Figma
Designer: Fahad Hussain
Design Process
Wireframing I began by sketching wireframes to outline the app’s key features, ensuring that the process of tracking shots was straightforward and non-intrusive. The layout needed to be clean, with easy access to key actions like selecting a shot location.
UI Design The user interface was designed with a minimalistic style, using clear icons and color-coded indicators for successful shots and missed attempts. A basketball court map was integrated to allow users to click on specific shot locations, with an animated basketball indicating shot selection, providing a fun, interactive experience for users.
Interactive Prototyping Using Figma, I built interactive prototypes that allowed users to simulate tracking their shots by clicking on various spots on the court. The animated ball feature guides users, letting them visually confirm their shot selection area before logging it. The prototype also displayed stats and shot percentages, giving immediate feedback after each tracked session.
Challenges
One of the challenges was ensuring that the app’s interface was responsive and fast enough to allow users to track their shots in real-time without disrupting their practice sessions. Implementing the animated ball feature also required fine-tuning to make sure it added to the user experience without slowing down interactions. Another challenge was making the data visualization both informative and easy to interpret, especially for users who aren’t familiar with advanced basketball analytics.
Final Outcome
The final design successfully meets the goal of providing an easy-to-use basketball shot tracking system. Users can track their shots, visualize their performance, and access key insights without interrupting their practice. The addition of the animated basketball brings an engaging, interactive element to the experience, making it not only functional but also fun to use.
Reflection & Next Steps
This project allowed me to delve deeper into designing data-driven interfaces that maintain a user-friendly experience. The animated basketball was a key feature that enhanced interactivity and made the process of tracking shots more enjoyable. In future iterations, I would like to explore adding features like shot comparison over time, multiplayer tracking for teams, and integration with wearable devices for more automatic tracking.
