The Trans Boise Collective recently commissioned my artistic design skills to create an event poster for an upcoming small concert. They wanted something funky and fresh to attract people to the event. To accomplish this I was given complete artistic freedom in choice of the design, concept, font and placement of elements on the poster. Below my initial brainstorm sketch for the commission piece can be seen:

Goals/ Ideas

I knew this opportunity would be perfect for honing in my desire to create naturalistic and dynamic scenes with lots of motion and character.
I was told to leave some room for the potential of more artists being added at a future date.
I also wanted to focus in on the native life of the Boise area and so spent some time researching the local Flora and Fauna to find my muse.
I found the perfect bait to reel in the customers to this band show with the fisher (Pekania pennanti)

Refining the Work

Once I completed the sketch of the poster I transferred the drawing to Procreate onto my drawing tablet.
From here I refined the line-work of the fisher cat and began playing with the placement of the typography.
Next was adding the color and figuring out where I wanted the audience to focus their attention, which was the fisher cat! I knew that placing the muted purple and yellow together would be great for achieving this goal and bring the piece together:

Sinker!

I wanted to improve the texture of the poster, which meant going out of my comfort zone and using brushes on the procreate app that I haven't had the chance to before. We learn and try new things every day here!
I refined the placement of the typography and after checking in with the client on the start times, I was able to recover swiftly and promptly!

This project was so fun and was an amazing opportunity to explore my graphic design skills and hone in my artistic ability. I believe that I achieved the goals I set out for myself as I believe they were realistic for me to achieve!
