Logo creation for Randan - a collaboration between Scotland's leading TV and film companies - Mallinson Television Productions (MTP) and Bombito Productions.
Scotland’s leading TV and Film production companies Mallinson Television Productions (MTP) and Bombito Productions launch their new collaborative outfit Randan. I had the pleasure of working with the team to create the new logo.
In Scotland a Randan is most commonly known for being a heavy drinking session however it turns out it’s also a boat. Had a great time exploring options for both meanings and in the end landed on this playful but professional logo.
Exploration
Initially focusing on the party scenes, I began to identify and capture letter forms within the photographs. After printing the collage, I traced letters directly from the images.
Inspired by these organic shapes, I set out to refine the letters into a cohesive, professional typeface. By cleaning up the forms and ensuring consistency, I created a unique font that reflects the dynamic and energetic atmosphere of the party scenes.
The typography pays homage to the traditional randan boat. With three oars - one in the front, two in the middle, and one in the back - the wider letters visually represent the oars' positions.
Focusing on the letter “A” I developed shapes that evoke both oars and wine bottles, symbolizing the dual meanings of the word 'randan.' This design choice adds a layer of complexity and meaning to the typography.
By incorporating these elements within a boat-shaped outline, I created the final logo. This design seamlessly integrates the typography, oars, and wine bottles, forming a cohesive and visually striking interpretation of the randan boat.
Final Logos
To accommodate various applications, the logo is available in multiple formats, ensuring optimal display across digital platforms.
