Opal Camera - Concept

Opal makes the first professional webcam, built for people who spend their working life on camera. The C1 turns the laptop webcam into a real piece of optical equipment. f1.8 aperture, 4K resolution, the kind of object you want on your desk, not the kind you tolerate.
We took on Opal as a redesign and concept exercise. The brand already had a strong product. The brief we set for ourselves was to build a brand world around it that matched the ambition of the hardware. Less tech company, more design house. A brand that could sit between Teenage Engineering, Leica, and a downtown record label.
The work covers the wordmark and monogram, the tagline system, the typographic identity, the editorial layouts, and a set of campaign keyframes. Everything is built around a single thought. The objects you use most often should be the best things you own.
Visual design
Three colors do the heavy lifting. Yellow as the signal. Black as the structure. Off-white as the surface. The wordmark is a clean geometric sans, paired with a monogram mark that reads as both a play button and a lens aperture. A pixel-mono display face handles utility copy and gives the system its instrument-panel character. A high-contrast script runs against it as the romantic counterpoint, lifted from old advertising signage, used sparingly. The product is photographed like jewelry. Yellow circles act as a recurring spotlight, framing the camera the way a stage frames a performer.
