Overview 🔎

Regca is an offline mobile application that enables the calculation of the weight of children who are either exposed to HIV/AIDS or infected with the virus using their age, and further informing professional healthcare providers on the right drug prescription to place each child on.

Background 🤝

In a bid to achieve the 95:95:95 United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) target and put an end to the HIV epidemic, prevention of transmission of new infections is mandatory.
The first 95% achievement is 95% of the target for new HIV Case Identification.
The second 95% achievement is 95% of the target for linkage to treatment and retention in care, and finally, the third 95% achievement is 95% of the target for virally suppressed positive cases.
The final 95% is the most important cascade in ensuring that the HIV epidemic is put to an end. Science has proven that an Undetectable Viral Load which is a result of the uptake of the appropriate antiretroviral drugs (ARVs), at the right time and in the right dosage is equal to an un-transmissible Virus.

Problem Definition 🛣

According to a Viral Load Suppression study done by UNICEF in 2021, data has shown that the Paediatric population is lagging behind adults in Viral Load Suppression.
In Malawi: Children at 42% vs Adults at 67%
In Uganda: Children at 38% vs Adults at 84%
In Zimbabwe: Children at 47% vs Adults at 86%
In Nigeria: Children at 65% vs Adults at 93%
This can be attributed to several factors including human factors like the inability to provide care for themselves and the attitude of their caregivers towards their adherence. Other factors that are facility/drug-related include inappropriate regimen, wrong dosage, wrong weight measurement, etc.

Solution 🎁

In order to ensure that drug-related factors such as inappropriate regimen and wrong dosage for the weight which is a major cause of un-suppression among this subgroup, are prevented, the idea of the Regca Mobile App was birthed.

Target Audience 📣

1. Clinicians working in the community and hard-to-reach areas.
2. Clinicians working in health facilities in urban regions.
3. Prescribers of Antiretroviral medications
4. Techincal Case managers in charge of specific positive cases

6. Other health providers who interface with positive cases

User Personas 🧔🏾‍♂️

Personas help designers to create understanding and empathy with the end users. Creating personas can help designers step out of themselves and recognize that different people have different needs and expectations.
