This is a project aimed to help toddlers to learn the letters of the Serbian alphabet. I wanted to make a simple mobile educational game that would be extremely simple and easy to use. Presuming that the child still doesn’t know how to read, there are no written instructions or links in the app. There are no different sections; it starts right away by asking the kid to press a letter on the screen and if the letter is correct an illustration appears as well as a rewarding spoken message. After that, when the child presses anywhere on the screen or waits long enough, the app shows all the letters of the alphabet again and the new task begins.
Having already tested this approach with my son by making a similar desktop app, when he learned all the letters in a couple of hours, I wanted to port the same concept to the mobile phones. I made thirty pencil drawings (one for each letter of the Cyrillic alphabet), vectorized and colored them in Illustrator, and made the working prototype in Invision. I did the sound recording and editing (my wife read the text), and coded the app in React Native. I also created a website with a simple landing page announcing the publication of the app. React Native being a cross-platform library, the app can work both on iOS and Android.
