Project Overview Inclusive is a research-driven lifestyle magazine exploring the negative body image’s impact among Gen Z and the role of self-acceptance, representation, and community-support in building a healthier beauty perception. The magazine is developed from a research paper into an accessible editorial experience through real-life stories, photography, fashion features, and personal experiences. This project challenges the unrealistic beauty standard perpetuated by the media, society, and cultural expectations. This project advocates for a more inclusive understanding of beauty that promotes individuality, diversity, and authenticity.
The Goal Transform a complex research into a lifestyle publications that inspires people to read and promotes awareness about body image. Instead of presenting statistics through traditional research study, we’ve designed this magazine to:
Raise awareness about negative body image among Gen Z
Encourage conversation about self-acceptance and community support
Showcase underrepresented voices
Create emotional connection between readers and the research
Promote inclusivity through fashion, storytelling, and representation
The "Inclusive" Concept
You can’t solve a visbility problem if people and self-experiences never feel seen.
The magazine combines documentary-style photography, respondents stories, and editorial fashion as well as the research findings to create a lifestyle publication that feels personal rather than curated beauty. Real experiences from the participant’s of the study were transformed into visual narratives, allowing readers to connect fully with the realities of body image.
Design Decisions
Let’s be honest, no body reads a 100-page research on a friday night.
The challenge we’ve faced here is how to connect with people emotionally to push and promote a better and healthy body image and community support in Tarlac City. We’ve decided to show imperfection as a visual language. Distorted imagery, torn-paper composition, layered textures, motion blur, and handwritten notes were carefully chosen to communicate insecurity, comparison and identity conflict like body dysmorphia.
We’ve also communicated the whole magazine as a story. Starting with “What is Negative Body Image?” to real life struggles and experiences dervied from the research’s respondents to a feature story that highlights positive body image through fashion and self-expression.
 Imperfection as the visual language
✅ Editorial design as emotional storytelling
✅ Fashion as a tool for confidence
Results The project successfully transformed a research study into a compelling editorial publication that made conversations around body image more accessible, relatable, and emotionally engaging.
By combining research, visual storytelling, and authentic representation, the magazine created a platform that encouraged reflection, self-acceptance, and community dialogue around beauty standards and mental well-being. The publication demonstrated how design can move beyond aesthetics and become a tool for education, advocacy, and positive social change.
