Slow Wave Coffee

The husband and wife team behind Slow Wave Coffee approached me to help with their new journey. I was initially tasked with naming the business, establishing their branding and packaging, as well as setting up their brand strategy to help them stay on track throughout their journey. We determined that their brand needed to be uncomplicated, authentic, and most importantly, non-pretentious. Slow Wave Coffee is positioned to be a gateway into enjoying high-quality coffee without overly complex brewing methods and expensive equipment, regardless of where you're at in your coffee journey.
When it came to naming the business, we landed on a name that spoke to their values and fit the industry perfectly. In coffee culture, there are movements known as "waves". For example, Third Wave coffee, simplified, is a movement that focuses on producing high-quality, ethical coffee. This name positions Slow Wave as the movement of taking your time to enjoy the coffee you just created.
Countless coffee identities follow the artisanal, hand-crafted trend while Slow Wave's was designed to be friendly, approachable, and outlast the trend. The cup icon, which is also a stylized 'S', represents slowing down and enjoying your cup of coffee.
By creating four distinct roast profiles, Slow Wave takes the guess work out of finding a coffee that will fit your flavour preferences. These colourful profile labels jump out on the clean, white pouches. Instructions to brew your best cup are featured on the back to be informative and helpful to someone who is beginning their coffee journey.
The brand aesthetic created for Slow Wave Coffee feels high-quality while maintaining a friendly and approachable vibe to appeal to everyone from beginner coffee drinkers all the way to people deep into the Third Wave culture.
