The Pilot Brewhouse

The Pilot Brewhouse

Lauren and Andrew, who I previously collaborated with for Lockport Brewery’s brand, approached me again to develop the branding for their latest venture: a new brewpub located in New Philadelphia, Ohio. The space sits beside Harry Clever Field, the local airstrip where astronaut John Glenn once learned to fly. This became a unique detail that inspired much of the visual identity.
We landed on a design direction that blends vintage industrial character with a clean, modern edge. Bold, utilitarian typography is paired with a geometric sans serif to strike a balance between heritage and contemporary. The colour palette takes cues from the natural surroundings—earthy land tones and open sky blues—creating an approachable, grounded feel.
A key visual element is the illustration of an oncoming plane that was developed through several iterations to capture a strong sense of movement. At the center of the propeller, a subtle nod to Ohio appears as the star and circle motif from the state flag is integrated to honour the location’s roots.
Multiple logo lockups were created to give the brand flexibility across applications, especially merchandise, setting the brewpub up to offer a range of apparel and products to their patrons.

Logos. Branding. Packaging.
