Ochié Gallery

An Art Gallery Portfolio That Explores Color Without Losing Simplicity

Check Live Website

The Brief

Ochié Gallery is a portfolio concept for artists, galleries, and curators who want to present artwork in a way that feels expressive without overwhelming the work itself.
Rather than relying on a monochromatic or neutral aesthetic often associated with gallery websites, this project explores how bold, carefully chosen colors can coexist with a clean, minimal layout. The goal was to create an experience that feels vibrant while allowing every piece of artwork to remain the primary focus.
Designed in Readymag, the website is fully responsive across desktop and mobile.

The Challenges

Letting color support the artwork, not compete with it.

Art should always be the center of attention. The challenge was introducing vibrant colors throughout the interface without distracting from the pieces being displayed.

Balancing expression with simplicity.

Gallery websites often lean toward either highly experimental layouts or extremely minimal ones. The challenge was finding a middle ground where the interface felt distinctive while remaining easy to navigate.

Creating consistency across different artworks.

Every artist and collection brings its own colors, textures, and visual language. The layout needed to adapt to a wide variety of artwork while maintaining a cohesive identity throughout the site.

Preserving the experience across devices.

The desktop layouts were carefully adapted for mobile, ensuring that spacing, image presentation, and typography retained the same sense of balance on smaller screens.

My Approach

Building around the artwork.

Every layout decision began with the artwork itself. Typography, spacing, and color were designed to frame each piece rather than compete with it.

Creating rhythm through color.

Color wasn't added simply to make the interface more vibrant. It was used to establish rhythm, guide attention, and introduce personality without distracting from the artwork.

Keeping the interface minimal.

The design removes unnecessary distractions, allowing visitors to move naturally between collections while maintaining a strong sense of visual hierarchy.

Refining every screen.

The mobile experience wasn't an afterthought. Each layout was manually refined to ensure the same clarity and visual balance across desktop and mobile.
