The Brief
Cyph Studio™ is a portfolio website concept designed in Readymag for creative professionals who want to present their work through an immersive, editorial-inspired experience.
Many portfolio websites prioritize fitting as much content as possible into a single interface. This project explored a different direction, creating a portfolio that feels flexible, atmospheric, and memorable while remaining easier to navigate.
Designed with both Light Mode and Dark Mode, Cyph Studio™ gives visitors the freedom to experience the work in the environment they prefer without compromising visual consistency.
The Challenges
Designing for every type of creative disciplines.
Cyph Studio™ wasn't created for one profession. It needed to feel flexible enough for designers, photographers, developers, artists, filmmakers, and other creatives. The design system had to adapt to different kinds of work while maintaining a strong identity.
Making the experience work on mobile screen.
Unlike many website builders, Readymag's mobile layouts require hands-on refinement rather than automatic scaling. Every section was carefully adjusted to preserve the pacing, hierarchy, and visual balance of the desktop experience without feeling like a condensed version of it.
Designing two distinct moods without designing two different websites.
Light Mode and Dark Mode weren't treated as separate versions of the same layout. The challenge was creating a single design system that could shift between two different atmospheres while keeping the same sense of rhythm, hierarchy, and familiarity. A visitor should feel like they've changed the mood of the site not switched to an entirely different experience.
Balancing minimalism with personality.
Minimal interfaces often risk feeling cold or empty. The challenge was creating generous white space, restrained typography, and clean layouts that still carried warmth, character, and visual interest.
My Approach
Starting with the content, not the decoration.
The layout was built around pacing rather than density. Instead of filling every screen, I allowed each section enough space to stand on its own, creating a rhythm that encourages visitors to move naturally from one project to the next.
Designing both themes from the beginning.
Light Mode and Dark Mode weren't added after the design was finished. Both were considered from the first layout, allowing typography, imagery, and spacing to work consistently regardless of the selected theme.
Rebuilding the mobile experience.
Rather than shrinking the desktop layout, I treated mobile as its own design exercise. Each section was manually refined inside Readymag to preserve the same hierarchy and flow while making better use of the smaller screen.
Working within platform constraints.
Cyph Studio™ was created using Readymag's free plan, where certain features and workflows are more limited. Instead of seeing those limitations as obstacles, I approached them as design constraints. The goal wasn't to prove what the platform could do, it was to show what thoughtful planning and execution could achieve, regardless of the plan being used.
