My Role

Copyeditor & Brand Voice Consultant

The Project

Nectar Landscape Design, a garden design company based in Los Angeles, needed fresh eyes to refine and polish their website copy and ensure it aligned with their brand vision. While the original copy was written by a copywriter, my role was to enhance clarity, consistency, and tone while optimizing the content for SEO. I also edited and refined the text for their Instagram campaign to ensure it was engaging, on-brand, and resonated with their target audience.

The Client

Nectar Landscape Design specializes in creating bespoke, restorative garden spaces in Los Angeles. Their brand emphasizes sustainability, personalization, and the transformative power of nature.

The Challenges

While Nectar’s creative team had worked with a copywriter to craft the initial copy, they needed my expertise as a copyeditor to refine and polish the content. The challenge was to ensure the language fully captured Nectar’s themes of nourishment, restoration, and personalization while maintaining a warm and inspiring tone. Additionally, the copy needed to align with SEO best practices and steer their audience toward clear calls to action. For their Instagram campaign, they sought edits to refine the copy for consistency and enhance engagement with their eco-conscious, design-focused audience.

The Insight

The existing copy was a strong starting point but required an additional layer of polish to ensure it fully reflected Nectar’s brand voice and connected with their audience. By aligning the tone with themes of nourishment and restoration, I could ensure the content felt as thoughtful and personal as the gardens they create. My task was to enhance readability and flow, refine key messages, and optimize for SEO—all while keeping the original writer’s intent intact.

Target Audience

Design-focused clients seeking personalized outdoor spaces.
Eco-conscious individuals who value sustainability and connection with nature.
Families and professionals looking for restorative, thoughtfully crafted gardens.
Garden enthusiasts seeking bespoke, meaningful designs that reflect their passions.

The Strategy

My approach centered on collaboration and refinement to bring out the best in the original copy. Here’s how we achieved success:
Brand Voice Alignment: I began by collaborating with the Marketing Lead to review the brand’s target audience and key messaging goals. This helped ensure the edits reflected the brand’s warm, nurturing, and bespoke tone.
Website Copy Editing: Using tools like Microsoft Word with Track Changes, I carefully edited the landing, About, Contact, and Process pages for clarity, tone, and SEO optimization. I fine-tuned calls to action, improved flow, and ensured consistency across all pages.
Social Media Copy Editing: For Instagram, I edited and polished the content calendar’s posts to enhance engagement and maintain the brand’s voice. I added suggestions for emojis and hashtags to make the posts more dynamic and on-brand.
Collaborative Feedback: After the first round of edits, I worked closely with the Marketing Lead and Owner to address their feedback and implement changes in a second draft. This iterative process ensured the final content was exactly what they envisioned.

The Process

Initial Consultation: I met with the Marketing Lead to understand the brand’s essence and target audience.
Review of Existing Copy: I reviewed the original copy to identify areas where clarity, tone, and flow could be improved.
Editing & Refinement: I edited the website copy and Instagram content using Track Changes to ensure transparency and easy collaboration.
Feedback & Revisions: I incorporated feedback from the Marketing Lead and Owner during a second round of revisions to finalize the content.
Final Delivery: Delivered polished, SEO-optimized website copy and Instagram content ready for publication.

The Outcome

The finalized website copy perfectly aligned with Nectar’s brand voice, emphasizing themes of restoration, nourishment, and personalization. The content was clear, engaging, and SEO-optimized, helping the company improve its search engine rankings and better connect with its audience. The Instagram campaign edits enhanced engagement and ensured consistency across platforms, supporting Nectar’s goal of creating meaningful connections with their eco-conscious and design-focused audience.

Skills & Approach

This project required both attention to detail and a deep understanding of brand voice. My role as a copyeditor focused on enhancing clarity and consistency without altering the original intent of the copy. I utilized tools like Microsoft Word and Excel to streamline collaboration and ensure transparency throughout the process. By balancing the technical aspects of SEO with the creative demands of brand storytelling, I helped elevate Nectar’s messaging to resonate with their audience.

Lessons Learned

This project reinforced the importance of teamwork and collaboration when refining existing copy. I was reminded that even the smallest adjustments can have a significant impact on tone and readability, and I now carry this attention to detail into all my future projects.
