Overview

My petstn: A pet care app tailored for Tunisian pet owners, offering a diverse range of products, and user-friendly features like personalized order management to enhance convenience and pet well-being.

Problem Statement

Tunisian pet owners lack a centralized, user-friendly platform for accessing pet care products, tailored information, and management tools, hindering their ability to efficiently meet their pets' needs.

Project Goals

Enhance Pet Care Accessibility: Provide a user-friendly platform for pet owners to access a wide range of products, detailed breed information, and health considerations for their pets.
Promote Secure and Ethical Breeding: Introduce a matching feature to connect pet owners responsibly.
Personalize the User Experience: Integrate features like loyalty programs, order management, and special offers to deliver a convenient and tailored experience.

Added Feature

Matching and managing dog breeding connections, ensuring a secure and straightforward process for pet owners. This feature streamlines finding compatible dogs, provides health insights, and simplifies communication between owners, enhancing the overall pet care experience.

UX Research

The UX research aims to understand how users interact with the pet store application in order to identify pain points, usability issues, and opportunities for improvement. By analyzing user behaviors, needs, and expectations, the research supports the redesign of a more intuitive interface and the integration of new features that enhance the overall user experience. A mixed-method approach is used, combining secondary research, surveys, interviews, and user testing with pet owners, future pet owners, and animal professionals, while ensuring data confidentiality and ethical research practices.

Information Architecture

The information architecture was designed using a hybrid card sorting method to ensure a clear and intuitive organization of features. The app navigation is structured around a central Home entry point, providing access to key sections such as Menu, Discovery, Matchy, Cart, and Profile. The newly added Matchy feature is integrated as a dedicated section, allowing easy access to animal preference filters, galleries, and related services. This structure aims to improve navigation clarity, reduce user friction, and deliver a smooth and coherent user experience.

User Story

User stories were defined based on insights gathered from surveys and user interviews, allowing us to understand real user needs, pain points, and expectations. This research-driven approach helped translate qualitative and quantitative data into actionable scenarios that reflect actual user behaviors. Key metrics such as task completion rate, usability issues frequency, and user satisfaction were used to validate and prioritize the most impactful user stories.

UX Audit

A UX audit was conducted on selected screens of the existing app and classified into four key categories: graphic design, ergonomics, navigation, and functionality. This evaluation helped identify usability issues, visual inconsistencies, navigation friction, and functional gaps, providing clear insights to guide the redesign and improve the overall user experience.

Story Board

The storyboard illustrates the user’s journey before using the app, highlighting the challenges she faces while trying to find a suitable pet match through different methods. It shows her searching on social media, contacting breeders, relying on word of mouth, and dealing with uncertainty, lack of trust, and wasted time. This journey emphasizes the pain points and frustrations that led to the need for a more reliable, centralized, and user-friendly pet matching solution.

UX Audit and Benchmark

A UX Audit and Benchmark were conducted to evaluate the existing app and compare it with similar platforms. This process included usability testing, the System Usability Scale (SUS) to measure ease of use, and the AttrakDiff test to assess perceived usability and emotional experience. The insights gathered helped identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement to guide the redesign.

Prototype

The final prototype illustrates the new feature flow within the app, translating research insights and user needs into a clear, user-centered experience. It showcases the complete journey, key interactions, and integration of the new functionality, enabling usability testing and validation before development.

User Experience Testing

User experience testing was conducted after the final prototype was completed, using NPS (Net Promoter Score) and SUS (System Usability Scale) to evaluate overall satisfaction and usability. These metrics helped measure user perception, ease of use, and likelihood of recommendation, validating the effectiveness of the design solutions.
