TEHST Graphic Design Program

Our task is to craft a distinctive logo or symbol that embodies the essence of the graphic design program at Thomas Edison High School of Technology. Throughout the project, I created a series of design sketches that embody the essence of graphic design while maintaining a strong connection to the Thomas Edison program.

The concept behind the limited iterations was to seamlessly integrate graphic design icons with symbols emblematic of Thomas Edison's legacy. Incorporating additional symbols such as a gear and a wrench to represent the diverse programs offered by Thomas Edison, a CTE school, seemed like a viable concept at first. However, upon further review of the brief, it became apparent that this approach did not align with the project's requirements. Upon reflection, it became clear that the focal point of the composition ought to be the graphic design program, rather than Thomas Edison.

In retrospect, my design for the representative symbol of the design program may have been overly influenced by my admiration for Thomas Edison as a CTE school, rather than being centered on the program it was intended to represent. While redesigning one of the initial sketches, I stumbled upon this obstacle inadvertently. I find the initial concept of incorporating the school's initials into a graphic line quite intriguing. However, the existing graphic elements failed to capture the essence of the graphic design program.

Therefore, I took the liberty of revamping the design by introducing new artistic and design symbols that aptly represent the program. I strategically crafted the initials of Thomas Edison to give the impression that they are being shaped by the surrounding elements and symbols. This project proved to be a valuable learning experience, highlighting the importance of adhering to the design brief and instructions. As a designer, my ultimate goal is to ensure client satisfaction, rather than solely focusing on aesthetics.
