The objective wasn't simply to design interfaces, it was to understand how professional designers collaborate with AI, when human judgment takes over, and how different workflows influence the creative process.

As part of the study, I completed two design challenges under different constraints:

• Hybrid Workflow: Designed a trip-planning mobile app by combining Figma AI with manual design refinement.

• AI-Only Workflow: Directed Figma Agent to create a desktop event landing page using prompts alone, without making any manual design edits.

Alongside the final designs, I documented my thinking, design decisions, prompt iterations, and reflections throughout the process.

The project reinforced something I already believe: AI is an excellent creative partner, but design judgment, product thinking, and user experience are still what transform a good interface into a great one.

The first challenge was to design a mobile app for close friends planning a trip together using a hybrid workflow. I began by using Figma AI to generate an initial concept and layout, then stepped in as the designer to refine the experience.

Rather than accepting the AI output as-is, I reworked the information hierarchy, improved spacing and visual consistency, refined the component structure, and made interaction decisions based on usability rather than aesthetics alone.

The final concept focused on three core moments of the experience:

Discover and manage upcoming trips

View trip details and shared plans

Track and split group expenses

This workflow highlighted where AI accelerated ideation and where human judgment was essential to create a cohesive, user-centred experience.

The second challenge shifted my role from designer to creative director.

The goal was to create a desktop landing page for a public event using only Figma Agent. Manual edits weren't allowed, so every improvement had to come through prompt refinement and iterative direction.

Instead of moving pixels, I focused on defining the structure, writing increasingly specific prompts, evaluating each iteration, and guiding the AI toward a clearer visual hierarchy and a stronger user experience.

The project reinforced that effective AI-assisted design isn't about generating a single perfect screen it's about knowing how to communicate intent, evaluate outputs critically, and iterate until the design meets a high quality bar.
