Live With Purpose: Devotional Coloring Book

My role: Lead Illustrator and Layout Designer

The brief

I worked closely with the project manager, who provided the written content. The goal was easy to state and harder to pull off. The art shouldn’t just decorate the pages. It should carry the message, so that when someone finishes coloring a page, the verse stays with them.

The illustrations

I built each page around a single phrase. The lettering is the centerpiece, and the illustration grows out of its meaning. “Lord Is My Refuge” became a lighthouse standing steady above the clouds. “Serve the Lord with Gladness” became a guitar surrounded by flowers and music notes. Florals run through every page, so the whole book feels like one set.
Live With Purpose is a devotional coloring book. Each short reflection on a verse sits beside a hand-drawn page to color. I created the whole visual side of the book: every illustration, the hand lettering, the cover and the interior layout.
Coloring pages have their own rules. I kept the outlines bold and clean and the shapes closed, so the color stays where it should. I also mixed large open areas with smaller detailed ones, so a page feels relaxing to color rather than tedious.

Layout and typography

Each devotion takes up a two-page spread. The reading sits on the left and its coloring page on the right, so the reader reflects first and then colors. I gave the text pages a soft pink background, which makes them feel calm and separates them clearly from the white coloring pages.
Every text page follows the same structure. A small floral ornament sits above a script title, followed by the verse reference, the verse itself in italics and a short reflection. With that clear hierarchy, readers always know where to look, and the whole book feels consistent from start to finish.
Each illustration is drawn for the devotion it faces. “God’s Promises” sits beside an open Bible that reads “Meditate on His Promises.” “True Freedom” talks about singing praises, so its page shows a harp with music notes and butterflies.

The result

The book is sold on Amazon, and the listing holds a 4.7 out of 5 star rating. What I like most is that readers describe it the way we planned it, with the words and art working together.
“The combination of meaningful devotionals and beautiful illustrations makes it both calming and uplifting.”
“The pictures are just enough to color in 1–2 sittings while meditating on the Bible verse associated with it.”
That second review sums up the brief almost perfectly. Each page is detailed enough to enjoy without becoming a chore, and the verse stays with you while you color. Customers single out the quality, the images and how relaxing the book is.
