SIGLO is a personal project i've been working on for the past year. It is a space in where people can go do their laundry / look through design books and magazines / order a coffee / hangout.
The project is meant to take space in Mexico City. This is the city I grew up in, and recently, the tourism has grown so much in such a small amount of time, that apartments have become smaller in order to fit the housing demand. This means there is no longer space for a washing machine at home, and people are now forced to go to laundromats on laundry day.
Mexico City has many amazing things, but one thing that's not so great is the lack of self-service laundromats. Which are basically non existent. I saw this as an oportunity to start a business in this area. Allowing people to have a space where they can go do their laundry and spend some time looking through some cool books or drinking a coffee while they wait for their clean clothes.
Sadly, SIGLO had to be postponed thanks to the record-high heatwaves in Mexico City and water shortages we've been suffering in this past year. But I thought I would still take this opportunity to practice my coding skills and make my first HTML + CSS website with SIGLO in mind. <3
𖥔 Mood board 𖥔
I wanted to keep over mood more minimal. With very basic colours and shapes. I came across this typo that I liked a lot and wanted to include it in the project.
𖥔 Style Guide 𖥔
Since I wanted to keep the design super simple and let the images add colour to the design, I kept a monochromatic colour palette and a simple font.
𖥔 Wireframes 𖥔
Using Figma, I created wireframes to layout the design for both mobile and desktop. This process helped me get a clear vision of how the website would look and work on different devices. Having these wireframes made it much easier to move into the programming stage. They provided a visual guide that simplified communication with the development team and ensured that we were all on the same page. This preparation made the coding phase smoother and more efficient.

𖥔 Reflections & Takeaways 𖥔
Ive been looking forward to create my first project using HTML + CSS, and even thought it was filled with challenges, I really enjoyed creating this project and cannot wait to implement Java Script into my future ones, to create more interactive and visually appealing websites.
